Liturgy & Ministry
English Martyrs has a large number of parishioners who serve the parish in many different ways.

Liturgy
For each Sunday morning Mass we have four Liturgy Teams, named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each team aims to contribute to making Sunday Masses a rich experience for all who come. The team includes Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Welcomers & Ushers and Altar Servers, Children's Liturgy Leaders and those who offer hospitality in the church hall following Mass. The teams are on a four-week rota. Weekday and evening Masses also are served by Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers and Ushers. Other ways in which parishioners contribute include flower arranging, church cleaning and counting the weekly collection.

Sacrament Preparation
Sacramental preparation takes place entirely within the parish (except marriage), using a process known as lectionary-based catechesis (LBC).

The same approach is taken for each of the sacraments and for adults and children alike, and developed for the particular sacrament. There is a dedicated leader team of parishioners who run preparation courses for each of the sacraments, Confirmation, Communion and Baptism.

Children's Liturgy
Children's Liturgy Leaders present the gospel in a simple form for children's understanding at Sunday morning Masses in school term-time. There is a four-week rota for leaders and parents are invited to join in. At the start of the Mass, children aged between 4 and 7 years are invited to join the leaders, returning later to share in the Offertory Procession after which they sit with their parents.

Altar Servers
Girls and boys who have received their First Communion are invited to be involved in supporting their parish by serving at Mass. Introductory and training sessions are arranged periodically.
